Lena Headey is an English actress and producer known for her work in film and television, particularly for portraying complex and formidable characters. Born Lena Kathren Headey on October 3, 1973, in Hamilton, Bermuda, she is the daughter of British parents John Headey, a police officer, and Sue Headey. Her family returned to England when she was a child, and she grew up in Yorkshire. Headey was discovered by a casting agent while attending Shelley College in West Yorkshire and was offered an opportunity to audition for a film. She subsequently began working professionally as a young actress and developed a reputation for bringing emotional intensity and strength to her performances.

Headey made her film debut in the 1992 British drama Waterland, appearing alongside Jeremy Irons, John Heard, and Ethan Hawke. She continued building her career through a mixture of British and international productions, including The Summer House, Face, Onegin, Gossip, and The Brothers Grimm. She gained increasing attention for roles in films such as Possession, The Red Baron, and 300, in which she played Queen Gorgo, the determined wife of King Leonidas.
