Biography
Pomaikai Brown is a Hawaiian actor, entertainer, musician, producer, born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on January 5, 1961. His birth name is Nephi Pomaika’i Brown. He developed an interest in music at an early age. At 12, he began playing the ukulele with Ka Hale Hula O Keko’olani and later participated in band, orchestra, and concert glee while attending Kamehameha Schools at Kapalama. His musical interests eventually expanded to Hawaiian steel guitar, which he studied with renowned player Jerry Byrd. His early musical training became an important foundation for his later work in entertainment and performance.
Brown also pursued higher education, graduating magna cum laude from Hawaii Pacific College with a degree focused on entrepreneurial business studies. His education helped him develop the business side of his entertainment career, while his performing background gave him experience as a Hawaiian emcee and live entertainer. He later studied acting through several approaches, including energy-based acting with Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, method acting with Scott Rogers, and improvisation with Roger Wilko. Before establishing himself as an actor, Brown had already built a varied career in music and Polynesian entertainment, performing in Hawaii and internationally. His work combines Hawaiian traditions, entertainment, and screen acting. He also gained experience creating and presenting Polynesian shows for audiences in Hawaii and beyond.
Brown made his film acting debut in the 2004 comedy 50 First Dates, playing Nick, a chef. The role marked his entry into feature-film acting. He subsequently appeared in projects including North Shore, Relapse, Lychee Thieves, The Short List, Hawaii Five-0, A Fairly Odd Summer, and Big Eyes. His performance as Keoki in the short film Lychee Thieves brought recognition, and he received the Spirit of Hawaii Award at the Big Island Film Festival. Alongside acting, Brown has remained involved in production and live entertainment, contributing to projects centered on Hawaiian music, television, and Polynesian performance. His career reflects a blend of acting, music, cultural representation, and entrepreneurship.
