Biography

Ron Bottitta was born on December 25, 1960, in London, England. He grew up in the Claygate area and was educated at King’s College School in Wimbledon, later living in Esher, Surrey. Adopted at an early age by an American father and a Dutch mother, he moved to the United States in 1979. There he studied history at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984. He then pursued acting, completing a Master of Fine Arts at New York University’s graduate acting program in 1988, training alongside a group of emerging performers who would go on to varied careers in film and theater.

Bottitta built a substantial stage career, appearing in more than 125 productions Off-Broadway, regionally, and in Los Angeles. His roles have ranged widely, from historical and classical characters to contemporary figures dealing with anger, illness, or moral conflict. He is a company member at Rogue Machine Theatre, where he has performed in works such as Razorback, Monkey Adored, and The Sunset Limited, and he hosts the theater’s long-running spoken-word series Rant and Rave. Film and television work began with an uncredited appearance as an obnoxious drunken teenager in Players in 1979. Later credits include supporting roles in In Good Company, A Lot Like Love, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and The Hard Corps, along with guest appearances on series such as Alias, Jericho, Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS, and Cold Case.

He is perhaps best known to television audiences for his recurring role as Leonard, sometimes called Crazy Lennie, on the series Lost. Bottitta has also contributed extensive voice and motion-capture work, including parts in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, The Adventures of Tintin, A Christmas Carol, and other major productions. In addition to acting he works as a dialect and acting coach and maintains a strong interest in motorcycles, having logged well over a million miles on the road. He is married to actress Kathryn Kelley and has children. Through decades of consistent character work on stage and screen, Bottitta has established himself as a reliable and versatile performer in both British and American entertainment.
