Biography
Alexandra Silber is an American actress, singer, writer, and educator known for her work in theatre, film, television. She was born on July 3, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, and was raised outside Detroit, Michigan. Silber developed a passion for performing and attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts. She later studied acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow, graduating in 2005. Shortly after graduating, she made her professional West End debut as Laura Fairlie in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman in White, beginning an international stage career.
Silber continued building her reputation in musical theatre, appearing as Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof and Julie Jordan in Carousel in London’s West End. Her Broadway credits include Master Class, where she played Sophie De Palma opposite Tyne Daly, and the 2015 revival of Fiddler on the Roof, in which she portrayed Tzeitel. Silber’s screen career began with television appearances in Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Her feature-film debut came in 2007 when she appeared as the Young Woman at the Book Signing in the Stephen King horror film 1408, starring John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson. Her screen appearances have remained selective, while her theatre work has continued to be an important part of her artistic identity and professional career.
Although 1408 was her film debut, Silber is recognised for her achievements on stage rather than for a single breakout movie. Her performance as Laura Fairlie in The Woman in White marked her major professional breakthrough and established her as a rising West End performer. Silber is also an accomplished author, publishing the novel After Anatevka and the memoir White Hot Grief Parade in 2018. Her career demonstrates her versatility as a performer and writer across several forms of entertainment, with work spanning theatre, television, cinema, concerts, and literature. Her work continues to connect classical musical theatre with contemporary audiences internationally.
