Biography
Anna Faris is an American actress, comedian, producer and podcaster who became widely known for her energetic performances in comedy films and television. She was born Anna Kay Faris on November 29, 1976, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Her parents, Jack Faris, a sociology professor, and Karen Faris, a special-education teacher, encouraged her interest in acting from an early age. When she was six, her family moved to Edmonds, Washington, where she grew up. Faris began performing professionally as a child, and at the age of nine she had a paid acting job at the Seattle Repertory Theatre. She later attended the University of Washington, graduating with a degree in English literature in 1999.
After graduating, Faris began pursuing film and television roles. Her feature-film debut came in the independent horror film Lovers Lane (1999), in which she played Jannelle. Although the film was a relatively small production, it gave Faris an early opportunity to establish herself on screen. Her career changed dramatically the following year when she was cast as Cindy Campbell in the horror-comedy parody Scary Movie (2000). The film became a major commercial success, and Faris’s comic performance made her one of its most recognizable performers. She returned as Cindy in several sequels and continued appearing in comedies, including The Hot Chick, Just Friends, Waiting… and The House Bunny.
Faris also demonstrated her range beyond broad comedy. She earned attention for her supporting role as Kelly in Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation (2003) and appeared in Brokeback Mountain (2005), My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006) and Smiley Face (2007). She became the lead of the comedy The House Bunny (2008) and later provided the voice of Sam Sparks in the Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs films. On television, she played Christy Plunkett in the CBS sitcom Mom from 2013 to 2020. Faris also created and hosted the advice podcast Unqualified and published a memoir of the same name in 2017. Her documented nickname is “Baltimore’s Best Beautiful Blonde.”
