Biography
Nick Offerman is an American actor, comedian, writer, carpenter, and producer known for his deadpan style. He was born Nicholas David Offerman on June 26, 1970, in Joliet, Illinois. He grew up in Minooka. Offerman studied theatre at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1993. While in college, he helped establish the Defiant Theatre company. He also worked in theatre as a performer, fight choreographer, and carpenter, combining his interests with woodworking skills and practical design work.
Offerman made his film debut in The Waiting Game in 1999, beginning a screen career that included supporting roles in television and movies. During his years, he appeared in shows such as ER, The West Wing, Will & Grace, 24, Deadwood, and Gilmore Girls. He gained recognition when he was cast as Ron Swanson on the NBC comedy series Parks and Recreation in 2009. Swanson, a dry and unconventional parks department director, became Offerman’s signature character and brought him attention. Although Parks and Recreation was a television series rather than a film, it is regarded as his breakout role. His film breakthrough came with 21 Jump Street in 2012, where he played Deputy Chief Hardy.
After Parks and Recreation, Offerman expanded his career across comedy, drama, animation, and cinema. He appeared in films including The Kings of Summer, We’re the Millers, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, The Founder, The House of Tomorrow, Hearts Beat Loud, and Civil War. He has provided voices for productions such as The Lego Movie and Sing. On television, he appeared in Fargo, Devs, Pam & Tommy, and The Last of Us, earning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Last of Us. Beyond acting, Offerman is a woodworker and author who has written books about craftsmanship and creativity. He is married to actress Megan Mullally, and they married in 2003.
