Biography
Reece Ritchie is an English actor born on July 23, 1986, in Lowestoft, Suffolk, England. He grew up in a multicultural family, with an English mother and a father originally from Durban, South Africa. Ritchie developed an interest in acting while growing up and became involved with the National Youth Theatre as a teenager. He later studied at East 15 Acting School at the University of Essex, where he continued developing his skills through stage performances. Before establishing himself on screen, he appeared in theatre productions and performed a monologue at London’s Soho Theatre, where he was noticed by a casting director. That opportunity led to his first major screen work and helped launch his professional acting career.
Ritchie’s film debut came in 2008 when he was cast as Moha in Roland Emmerich’s historical adventure film 10,000 BC. The production took him to locations including New Zealand and Africa and gave him an early opportunity to work on a large-scale international production. His career gained further recognition in 2009 when he appeared as Ray Singh in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones, portraying the character who becomes an important figure in the life of Susie Salmon. He subsequently played Bis, an athletic Persian warrior and ally of Prince Dastan, in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. These early film roles established Ritchie as a versatile performer capable of working across different genres and playing characters from varied cultural backgrounds.
Throughout his career, Ritchie has worked across film, television, and theatre. He played Atul in the romantic comedy All in Good Time and portrayed dancer Afshin Ghaffarian in Desert Dancer. In 2014, he appeared alongside Dwayne Johnson in Hercules as Iolaus, the storyteller and nephew of Hercules. His television work has included roles in White Heat, The Outpost, Les Misérables, Rellik, and A.D. The Bible Continues. From 2019 to 2021, he played Zed in The Outpost, while in 2023 he began starring as Lieutenant Spencer Lane in the science-fiction series The Ark. Ritchie has also returned to the stage, including a performance as Puck alongside Judi Dench in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
