Biography
Sam Ball was born on June 29, 1973, in Bunker Hill, West Virginia. He developed an early interest in performance and went on to study at Shepherd College, where he earned a degree that prepared him for a career in the arts. After completing his education he moved into professional acting, first finding steady work on daytime television. In 1998 he was cast as Drew Buchanan on the long-running ABC soap opera One Life to Live, becoming the third and final actor to portray the character. The role provided valuable on-camera experience and served as an important entry point into the industry, allowing him to build connections and gain visibility among casting directors in both New York and Los Angeles.
Following his soap opera work, Ball transitioned into a broader range of film and television projects. He appeared in the independent drama Urbania and took a supporting part as Duffy in the prison drama The Last Castle, sharing the screen with Robert Redford and James Gandolfini. He continued to work steadily in features, playing Kent Woodlands in the dark comedy Pumpkin and landing a memorable supporting role as Alex Carlson in the hit romantic comedy 13 Going on 30 opposite Jennifer Garner. On television he made guest appearances on popular series such as Sex and the City, Charmed, CSI, and later projects including The Event and Perry Mason. These roles allowed him to move comfortably between comedy, drama, and genre work while establishing himself as a reliable character actor.
Throughout the 2000s and into the following decade Ball maintained a consistent presence in both independent films and network television. Credits included Man About Town, The Pact, and additional guest spots that kept him active across different formats. He has also been credited with writing and editing work on select projects and has pursued interests in music, performing as a bass guitarist and percussionist. Over more than two decades in the industry, Ball has built a solid reputation for delivering grounded and versatile supporting performances, contributing to a wide variety of American film and television productions while continuing to work as a dedicated character actor.
