Biography
Seth Rogen was born on April 15, 1982, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, into a Jewish family of Ukrainian and Russian heritage. His mother worked as a social worker while his father held positions with nonprofit organizations. From a young age, Rogen showed a strong interest in comedy, beginning stand-up performances around age thirteen and placing second in a local amateur contest by sixteen. He attended local schools but left high school early after securing an acting opportunity that took him to Los Angeles. There he connected with producer Judd Apatow, landing a role as the sarcastic Ken Miller on the short-lived series Freaks and Geeks. He continued collaborating with Apatow on the college comedy Undeclared, where he also contributed as a writer, and later joined the writing staff of Da Ali G Show, earning an Emmy nomination for the team’s work.
Rogen’s first film appearance came in a small role in Donnie Darko in 2001. Supporting parts followed, including memorable turns in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, the latter of which he also co-produced. His breakthrough arrived in 2007 with the lead role of a laid-back slacker facing unexpected fatherhood in Knocked Up, a commercial and critical success that established him as a major comedy star. That same year he executive-produced and appeared in Superbad, a script he had co-written years earlier with childhood friend Evan Goldberg. Further hits followed, among them Pineapple Express, Funny People, Neighbors, This Is the End, and The Interview, many of which he co-wrote or directed with Goldberg.
Beyond leading-man roles, Rogen has taken on dramatic parts such as Steve Wozniak in Steve Jobs and has provided distinctive voice work in animated features including Kung Fu Panda and The Lion King. He co-founded the production company Point Grey Pictures and has expanded into television producing and directing. Married to actress Lauren Miller since 2011, Rogen remains an active figure in comedy while also pursuing entrepreneurial interests. His career continues to blend writing, producing, directing, and acting, reflecting a consistent collaborative style and a signature mix of crude humor with underlying warmth.
