Biography
Wyatt Hawn Russell, born July 10, 1986, in Los Angeles, California, is an American actor and former professional ice hockey goaltender. He is the son of actors Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn and grew up surrounded by Hollywood, although he initially pursued hockey rather than acting as his primary career. Russell played competitively as a goaltender in North America and Europe before eventually turning his attention more fully toward the entertainment industry. His early acting appearances included childhood roles in Overboard (1987), in which he appeared as an uncredited baby, and Soldier (1998), where he played the younger version of Todd. As an adult, he began building a varied film career, taking on supporting roles across comedy, drama, horror, and action.
Russell’s first substantial period of film work included appearances in Cowboys & Aliens, This Is 40, We Are What We Are, Love and Honor, and 22 Jump Street. His performance as Zook Haythe in 22 Jump Street in 2014 became an important early career milestone and is often identified as his breakout film role. He followed it with appearances in Cold in July and At the Devil’s Door before earning further attention for films such as Everybody Wants Some!!, Ingrid Goes West, Table 19, and Goon: Last of the Enforcers. His role as Corporal Lewis Ford in the 2018 horror film Overlord demonstrated his ability to take on more demanding action-oriented material, while his television work in Lodge 49 established him as a leading performer on the small screen.
Russell expanded his profile considerably through television and major franchise projects. He played Cooper in the Black Mirror episode “Playtest” and Sean “Dud” Dudley in Lodge 49, followed by J. E. B. Stuart in The Good Lord Bird and Dan Lafferty in Under the Banner of Heaven. In 2021, he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as John Walker, appearing as the government’s replacement Captain America before becoming U.S. Agent in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He later reprised the role in Thunderbolts*. Russell has also appeared in The Woman in the Window, Night Swim, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, continuing to develop a career defined by a broad range of characters and genres.
