2067 (2020) is an Australian science-fiction thriller directed by Seth Larney. The film is set in a future where climate change has devastated Earth, leaving the planet with polluted air and widespread environmental destruction. People are forced to depend on artificial oxygen because the atmosphere can no longer support human life. Ethan Whyte, a young tunnel worker living in Sydney, struggles to care for his seriously ill wife, Xanthe. Ethan’s life changes when he receives a mysterious message from 2067 warning that humanity is facing extinction. He is chosen to travel through a time machine to the future, where he must discover what happened to the human race and find a way to save those who remain. Although Ethan is frightened by the mission, he agrees to travel because he believes it may be the only opportunity to save his wife and humanity.
When Ethan arrives in the year 2067, he discovers a ruined and unfamiliar world. He finds evidence that civilization has collapsed and that very few people remain alive. Ethan begins searching for answers while trying to understand the purpose of his journey. He encounters Archibald, an elderly man connected to the time-travel project, who helps explain the strange events surrounding the future. As Ethan explores the devastated world, he realizes that his mission is much more complicated than simply finding a cure for the poisoned atmosphere. He discovers information about the connection between the past and future and begins questioning whether the events he is witnessing can be changed. Ethan must face dangerous environments, mysterious forces, and difficult choices as he attempts to uncover the truth.
Throughout his journey, Ethan learns that his actions in the future could have serious consequences for the people he loves and for the survival of humanity. The film gradually reveals that the past and future are connected in unexpected ways, forcing Ethan to reconsider what he believes about time, destiny, and sacrifice. In the end, Ethan must make a difficult decision that could determine whether humanity has a chance to survive. 2067 explores themes of environmental destruction, time travel, love, sacrifice, and the consequences of human choices. The film ultimately presents a dark but thought-provoking warning about the future of Earth and the importance of protecting the planet before it is too late.
