Biography
Katherine Heigl is an American actress and producer best known for her performances in television dramas and romantic comedies. Born on November 24, 1978, in Washington, D.C., she is the youngest child of Nancy and Paul Heigl. She spent much of her childhood in New Canaan, Connecticut, alongside her siblings. Heigl’s introduction to the entertainment industry came at an early age when she began modelling as a child after a relative submitted photographs of her to a modelling agency. Her early experience in front of the camera eventually opened doors to acting opportunities. In 1992, she made her feature-film debut in That Night, playing a supporting role that marked the beginning of her professional screen career. She subsequently appeared in several films, steadily gaining experience and developing her abilities as a performer.
Heigl continued building her career throughout the 1990s, appearing in productions such as My Father the Hero, Under Siege 2: Dark Territory and Bride of Chucky. In 1999, she secured a leading role in the science-fiction television series Roswell, portraying Isabel Evans. The programme developed a dedicated following and helped establish her as a recognizable young television actress. Her career reached a major turning point in 2005 when she joined the cast of the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens. Her portrayal of the compassionate and emotionally complex surgical resident earned widespread recognition and culminated in a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2007. The role significantly increased her popularity and established her as one of television’s most prominent performers during the show’s early seasons.
Following her success on Grey’s Anatomy, Heigl became a major Hollywood leading lady, particularly in romantic comedies. She starred opposite Seth Rogen in Knocked Up in 2007, a commercially successful film that helped expand her audience beyond television. She followed this achievement with popular movies including 27 Dresses, The Ugly Truth, Killers and Life as We Know It. Heigl later returned to television, appearing in the political drama State of Affairs and the legal series Suits, in which she portrayed Samantha Wheeler. She also starred in the Netflix romantic drama Firefly Lane, playing Tully Hart. Beyond acting, Heigl has supported animal welfare initiatives and participated in charitable work. Her career reflects a combination of television success, mainstream film roles and continued involvement in entertainment production.
