9 (2009) is an animated science-fiction film directed by Shane Acker and set in a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been destroyed by machines. The story follows a small, mysterious rag doll named 9, who awakens in an abandoned laboratory with no understanding of who created him or what happened to the world. He soon discovers several other living dolls, each marked with a different number. They have been hiding from dangerous mechanical creatures that roam the ruins. Despite being warned to stay hidden, 9 ventures outside and encounters 2, another doll who helps him understand their strange existence. When 9 accidentally awakens a terrifying machine called the Beast, he realises that his actions have placed the entire group in danger.
