Set in Pennsylvania during the American Revolutionary War, 1780 follows Honore, a reclusive former soldier who has withdrawn from the conflict to live a quiet life as a frontier trapper and farmer. Living with his young son, Miles, Honore struggles to balance the responsibilities of fatherhood with the harsh demands of survival in the wilderness. Having experienced the brutality and suffering of war, he prefers to remain isolated from the fighting and protect the fragile peace he has established. However, the conflict between the American Patriots and British forces continues to threaten even the most remote settlements, making it increasingly difficult for ordinary people to escape the violence surrounding them.

300 (2007), directed by Zack Snyder, is an action film based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. The story follows King Leonidas of Sparta, who is determined to defend his homeland against the massive Persian army led by King Xerxes. When Persian messengers demand that Sparta surrender, Leonidas refuses and prepares his soldiers for battle. Because Spartan laws and politics prevent him from taking the full army, Leonidas chooses 300 of his most skilled warriors to accompany him. They travel to the narrow pass of Thermopylae, where the small Spartan force can use the landscape to slow down the much larger Persian army. Leonidas and his soldiers understand that they are heavily outnumbered, but they are prepared to fight rather than surrender.
